FMP - Ancient Greek Mythology

These posts are on my Final Major Project at college. It will be the biggest project I have done as my work will be exhibited at the end of year exhibition at Barnsley College.

For this project we have been given the choice of what we would like to look at. At first I considered looking at English Folklore but then decided I would love to focus on Ancient Greek Mythology. I chose this topic because I am always intrigued by these myths. Even though I have looked at the myth of Medusa before for my final project at school I found that I would enjoy revisiting the topic to produce something from a different myth.

The myth that I wanted to focus on was the myth of Persephone and Hades. To me this myth is tragic yet romantic, even though Hades abducts Persephone and traps her in the underworld he does it out of love and desire. Persephone shows how strong she can be and she embraces her situation, she fought to get what she wanted and even though she didn't fully succeed she stayed strong.

There are many different versions to this myth but these are the ones I have looked at:

I hope to look at these myths and create a unique print that will then be made or draped onto a manikin as a dress. I also hope to make some belts that are inspired by my print to help with the Greek style or scarfs.
I will be blogging my sheet work, designs, tracings and final pieces as I go through the project so you can see how it goes. Thanks for reading xx
